The Sensory Program Director is the primary sensory resource company wide. He/she plays a key role in delivering Food Technology and Application projects that will contribute to the execution of the ambitious Growth Strategy of Corbion. He/She reports to the Head of R&D SFS, and designs, leads, and executes the new Sensory platform for Corbion with high level of autonomy, as well as driving the interdisciplinary team needed to deliver the different solutions that are key to safety, shelf life, and overall properties of Food Stuff. He/She works in close cooperation with, but not only, main stakeholders like the rest of the R&D team, Data Science, PM’s, Application & Technical Service, Sales, Operations, QC/QA, Regulatory, as well as Suppliers, Customers, and third parties.




As Sensory Program Director at Corbion, your key responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Provide the scientific and technical expertise necessary for the company to develop a sensory program that evaluates its products.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert, build, maintain, and strengthen the sensory platform for the entire company.
  • Maintain and grow the level of expertise in the field of Sensory Science and related Methods. Must keep the knowledge in the field up to date, and use the very latest techniques to help refine existing products and develop new ones.
  • Define the sensory program, including methodology and procedures, mapping the sensory results together with the analytical results in a robust data analysis model.
  • Manage sensory studies from start to finish including design, statistical analysis, interpretation, documentation, and presentation to stakeholders.
  • Recruit, train, assess, and calibrate panelists; conduct attribute linked sensory panels.
  • Seek continuously to  improve sensory research methods and promote agility according to business needs.
  • Contributes to the quality of the R&D input to the development of new solutions and improvement of the existing ones.
  • Provide technical insights as well as insights in industry status  and technology trends.
  • Instruct the QC departments to define practical sensory tests for the ongoing production.
  • Contribute to identify new opportunities of growth for Corbion; scouting potential new and existing technologies and their effective use in known and new Applications. Align with the BDM’s in order to create a robust value proposition in line with the Business Strategy.
  • Continuously align with PM’s for the expansion, improvement, and optimization of the relevant products portfolio.
  • Lead/support projects as Subject Matter Expert. Build, strengthen, and safeguard the sensory competences of our internal panel group. Provide scientific and technical insights to the various teams throughout the organization.
  • Work with external parties in order to complement and growth the Corbion’s competences in the field of expertise.
  • Proficient in self-learning and enrichment to bring new knowledge and skills to the organization.
  • Work and communicate effectively with all cross-functional  team members to promote the R&D culture of team delivery.
  • Capable of leading complex projects through managing the cross-functional teams under the guidance of stage gate process.


About you


  • MSc degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or equivalent scientific education. Any further specialization in the field of sensory science is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of principles and practices of chemistry and sensory fundamentals, preferable with focus on food.
  • Extensive experience (more than 10 years) in the sensory science, preferable within a food/flavor company, with application of a wide range of techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Capable to translate the scientific/technical knowledge into plans and solutions for the field of expertise.
  • Highly motivated, autonomous, self-starter, and proactive approach.
  • Creative and drive for success.
  • Familiar with complex and international environment, within a matrix organization
