For the Innovation Center Process Technology group we are looking for an intern with eagerness to learn, develop and hone their hands-on skills, that will be supporting Technicians and Scientists in developing new innovative processes or improving existing processes for food or biochemical industry
The Process Technology group is one of the core technologies of Corbion’s Innovation Center, at our location in Gorinchem. This is the largest R&D site of Corbion world-wide with labs, office space and pilot plants. On this site, the largest lactic acid derivative production facility is also found, serving our core business units.
The role
The intern will support in developing process technology solutions for Corbion’s Food & Ingredients Business. She/he will contribute to the practical execution of different project development experiments, which may include theoretical research, setup assembly, experimental execution, data evaluation and reporting, while adhering to Corbion's EH&S and quality standards.
As Intern (Process Development), you have solid theoretical background in process development related to chemicals and/or food processing (liquid and solid), and you are able to work independently on support activities while contributing to the team efforts on innovation and process optimization projects, supported by a senior colleague as supervisor. You have a can-do attitude, desire to grow and are able to work on multiple activities simultaneously. You like an informal workplace and be pragmatic in your approaches to problem solving. You can communicate, read and write in English, and you like practical work in a laboratory and/or pilot setting.
The intern will be guided by the members of the IC Process Technology group with a dedicated supervisor. The internship will last 5 months and consist of benchwork and/or pilot work, analysis of samples and analysis of data at Corbion. The internship will culminate in a written report and oral presentation to Corbion.

- Assist in the design, development and execution bench and pilot scale experiments
- Prepare experimental design, planning, and execution of research in consultation with the Technician B or Senior Technician
- Analyze, interpret and process results of experiments and derive conclusions
- Establishing and maintain strong standards of safety and housekeeping in the assigned area
About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic Bio-/Chemical R&D Intern (Process Development – Downstream Processing) with a passion for innovation and sustainability and eagerness to grow and develop in process development area.
A successful candidate meets the following criteria:
- Eager to gain experience in laboratory and pilot scale test set ups and experimentation, ideally in downstream process (DSP) units related to solids (e.g. spray drying, granulation) and/or liquids (e.g. crystallization, extraction, adsorption, evaporation, solid-liquid separation)
- Fluency in English (written and word)
- Team player
- Problem solving skills
- Good communicator
- Pragmatic, hands-on and can-do mentality
