For the Innovation Center Process Technology group we are looking for an eager, hands-on, pro-active technician who can support our team in developing new innovative processes for food, biochemical and/or algae business, or improve existing processes. The Process Technology group is one of the core technologies of Corbion’s Innovation Center, at our location in Gorinchem. This is the largest R&D site of Corbion world-wide with labs, office space and pilot plants. On this site, the largest lactic acid derivative production facility is also found, serving our core business units.
Corbion Innovation Center’s Process Technology group consists of a team of around 20 scientists and technicians. We create value by providing innovative solutions for process design, development and optimization activities and taking responsibility for scale-up and process demonstration, from bench-top to industrial scale, including technology transfer and implementation support. Here, the Technician plays a crucial role in creating value, where he works closely with scientists and project leads.
The role
As a R&D Technician - Downstream Process Development, you will play an important role in the practical execution of innovation, customer support and process optimization projects. You will contribute to the safety and organization of the laboratories and support equipment maintenance. You have solid (applied) scientific background in process development related to chemicals and/or food (liquid and solid processing). You are able to work independently as well as in a team environment. You have a can-do attitude and are able to work on multiple activities at once. You like an informal workplace and can be pragmatic. You can communicate, read and write in English, and you like practical work in a laboratory and/or pilot setting. The R&D Technician - Downstream Process Development reports to the team lead of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare experimental design, planning, and execution of research independently according to known procedures in a safe manner
- Assist in the design, development, implementation and operation of bench and pilot scale experiments
- Assist and setup SOPs for bench and pilot scale equipment/processes/assays
- Support with the analysis, interpretation and processing of results of experiments, monitor experiments
- Ensure documentation and reporting of procedures and results according to the Corbion standards. Support writing test protocols, SOP's, technology transfer documents and reports in a clear and structured manner
- Maintain lab facilities and equipment, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Take ownership of assigned lab areas, ensuring safety and housekeeping standards are met.
- Present and discuss results with the team, project team or other departments
- Work within a team framework and support the organization, with both individual responsibility and support of other technicians and scientists
- Align with other departments, such as fermentation, analytics, sensory and application
- Actively participate in maintaining the facilities, equipment, and safety in the labs
About you
- BSc in Bio-, Chemical-, Process, or Food Engineering/Technology with 1–4 years of experience, focusing on process development support in the chemical or food industry. Alternatively, MSc at entry level with 0–2 years of experience.
- Experienced in laboratory and pilot scale test set ups and experimenting, ideally in downstream process (DSP) units related to solids (e.g. spray drying, granulation) and/or liquids (e.g. crystallization, extraction, adsorption, evaporation, solid-liquid separation)
- Fluency in English (written and word)
