Do you want to know more about Corbion’s mission to Preserve what Matters? Corbion, a global leader in sustainable ingredient solutions, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Application Scientist to join our Functional Ingredients and Solutions (FIS) business-unit, focused on our Biochemicals segment at our location in Gorinchem. This is the largest R&D site of Corbion world-wide with labs, office space and a pilot plant. We focus on three key segments: Food, Biochemicals, and Lactic Acid to PLA. In this role, you will be collaborating closely with business developers, customers, and the R&D team to translate customer problems into research projects. This involves technical business support, including literature/patent studies, and some practical lab work, particularly in formulation and stability tests.

Responsibilities
 

Your mission will be to provide excellent technical business support and to be able to provide alignment between business requirements and application activities. With a strong focus on fulfilling a key role in supporting business development, sales teams, product management & customers by providing theoretical and practical support. Continuously transferring business/customer related questions into application activities & lead/conduct execution thereof. In terms of innovation, new ideas/value propositions are proposed for further screening within application projects a.o. based on discussions with business development, sales or customers.

Key accountabilities

• Handling of technical support questions coming from business development, sales & customers.
• Transferring business related questions into (short/mid) research activities; including
  • Conducting internal application research
  • Develop (technical) application/product propositions
• Responsible for technical introduction of new developed concepts/value propositions and support implementation at customers.
• Disclosure of technical background information to business development & sales team
• Present engaging (technical) lectures to customers
• Contribute to strategic direction
• Identify IP opportunities
• Setup new projects
• Coaching & training of Application technologists and/or trainees

Requirements

• MSc in relevant technological area for our biochemicals segment;
  • Preferably chemistry background
  • FIS-Global key accounts – Biochemicals has three market segments: Home & Personal Care; agrochemicals and semiconductor industry.
• > 5 years technical and experimental experience in (customer driven) product/ application development
• Basic B2B marketing knowledge and insight into IP and patents
• Identify IP opportunities
• Hands-on and project-like approach
• Experience with project management / leading small tech project teams
• Practical knowledge of Biochemicals products, functionalities and market(s)
• Good communication skills and a pro-active attitude, fluent in English

KEY RELATIONSHIPS (CUSTOMER AND STAKEHOLDERS)

• Develop and maintain relationships with other Corbion functions like R&D, Business Development, PM, RA and OPS
• Engage directly with customers at the R&D level
