Senior Lab Technician Fermentation R&D

As the Senior Technician Fermentation R&D with Corbion you will be working in a team that is responsible for the developement of new ferments. You will be working directly with one of the team members and if you have sollid knowledge of fermatation and would like to develope more knowledge than this is a great opportunity. 

MISSION AND KEY ROLE FOCUS

The fermentation R&D SFS team plays a key role in the development of new ferments for the business unit Sustainable Food Solutions (SFS). SFS is focusing on producing products to enable natural and clean labels in the food industry. The Senior technician fermentation R&D SFS will work on fermentation processes in a team of technicians and specialists (scientists).

• Providing technical expertise and support to Corbion projects according to the given priority.
• Interact within a multidisciplinary team to develop the process in an iterative manner.
• In this role the main responsibility is to independently perform experiments in the laboratory. This will be achieved by setting up and take ownership, on a part of the research activities in the field of fermentation development. Supporting, the fermentation specialist/scientist in designing and reporting the experimental plan. The main activities are present from ideation, concept development (lab-scale) through design and develop (pilot phase) and finaly transfer all towards the plant for demo scale production.
• Plan, coordinate and execute experiments as part of the work package: screening, lab scale, pilot scale.
• Capture (quality) and critically evaluate data in a lab journal and report.
• Process and/or support the fermentation specialist/scientist with the needed data, analyses, software output for proper monitoring of the fermentation process.
• Support  internal and external activities on tech transfer (lab, pilot, operations)Take ownership and leading role in the laboratory and/or pilot facility in relation to way of working, maintenance, planning, performing improvements, execution of modifications
• Signal IP opportunities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Support the technical lead/project leader and contribute to innovation projects and/or customer support projects, active participation and execution of project elements.
• Manage short term innovation and customer support projects. Translate business goals/request to experimental set ups.
• Prepare project design, planning, and execution of research independently according to the known protocols (consult specialist/scientist, manager or external parties when necessary). Present realistic planning and deliverables.
• Assist in supervision and support of technician A & B in preparation, planning and execution of research.
• Ensure documentation and reporting of procedures and results according to the Corbion standards. Report methods, results and techniques used.
• Analyze, interpret and process results of analyses or experiments, monitor results during research and adjust research when necessary. Signal IP opportunities.
• Present, discuss and defend results with the team, project team or other departments.
• Actively participate in maintaining the facilities, equipment, and safety in the labs.
• Develop new protocols for testing/analyzing.
• Support onboarding of colleagues and students.
• Provide support to other areas within the organization (product management, operations, procurement) with input, information and by supporting technical questions.
• Literature research, and proper storage/collection of relevant articles. Maintain up to date scientific knowledge on specific fields.

KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

In addition to the educational achievements on a B.Sc / M.Sc degree in biotechnology or microbiology with some work experience the Senior Technician fermentation R&D SFS has:

• Strong background and hands-on knowledge in laboratory and pilot activities, ideally in the food sector.
• Has industrial experience in the field of fermentation processes
• Take ownership on the fermentation lab and/or pilot scale
• Willingness to travel (up to 20%) – International?
• Fluency in English (written and verbal)
• Good communication skills and intercultural sensitivity
• Excellent team-player skills, and able to work in multidisciplinary teams
• Take initiative & have an entrepreneurial mindset
• Pragmatic and drive for success
