Within our Sustainable Food Solutions Business Unit, the Food Microbiology & Preservation R&D team plays a key role in the investigation and development of new solutions that contribute to Corbion's growth in the Natural Preservation Business. The team of Experts works on both Modelling and Preservation Solutions in the form of functional food ingredients that are key to the safety, shelf life, and overall properties of Food Stuff.

 

As our Senior Scientist Food Microbiology, you contribute to innovation projects as well as Customer support. You are based at our site in Gorinchem, the Netherlands and report to the Senior R&D Manager Food Microbiology & Preservation.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Support the team to maintain and support the Predictive Food Models for Food Microbiology (Like CLCM and CPC), which play an important role in the Corbion value offering in today’s global market.
  • Actively explore and propose new natural preservation solutions that fit the business strategy.
  • Identify opportunities of leveraging existing solutions, alone or in synergistic combinations, in unexplored and potentially business attractive food segments.
  • Contribute to the coordination of the microbiology/application workstreams for food innovation projects from the Food Micro & Preservation group
  • Ensure the high quality standards of the microbiology experiments for innovation projects, customer collaborations and specific sales requests
  • Maintain the collaboration between Food Micro and the Application groups (Gorinchem, Lenexa and remote).
  • Actively contribute to filling the innovation project pipeline
  • Actively contribute to maintain a consistent and continuous alignment and knowledge sharing within the Corbion Food Micro & Preservation group globally

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Technical Lead and Project Lead for Food Micro & Preservation related innovation projects
  • Internal and External Subject Matter Expert on Food Preservation related predictive modeling and anti-microbial technology
  • Contribute to development of the Food Innovation roadmaps and pipeline
  • Set-up of experimental work and work together with the technicians to ensure correct execution of the experimental work
  • More complex Data analysis on results generated by technicians
  • Ensuring proper reporting of the results and conclusions
  • Development of new protocols
  • Supervision, train, mentor, and support technicians
  • Literature research, and keeping the knowledge of self and the rest of the team well updated on new preservation technologies and trends.
  • Maintain a strong external (scientific) network

 

Requirements

 

  • Master in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Biology or equivalent education. PhD is preferred.
  • Specialized in Food Preservation, with a good understanding of various food applications and food science
  • Experience in working in a BSL-2 lab
  • At least 10 years working experience, preferably in a food company
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience in handling of food-related microorganisms
  • Passionate about food, food preservation, and innovation
  • Project leadership skills: track record of delivering complicated objectives through others: consultants, team members, experts
  • Customer focused and solution oriented mindset
  • Capable of building trusted relationship with both internal and external stakeholders.
