As Scientist, Meat at Corbion, you will be a member of the Meat Application, Research, Technology and Sciences (ARTS) team, focused on applications, development and implementation of solutions and innovations for the North American meat market. Subject Matter Expert of meat science preservation, oxidation and ingredient interaction, you’ll play a strategically important, customer-facing role.  The right candidate has the ability to apply their expertise in applied meat science and years of manufacturing experience to help create and apply innovative solutions that grow the company's meat and poultry business. Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with Microbiologists and Sensory Scientists; coordinate application work in multidisciplinary and cross-functional project teams, either as (technical) project lead, or as application work stream lead. This includes ideation, reviewing and identifying new projects, developing and executing technical plans, collecting and analyzing data, communicating results and project status, generating reports, making presentations, and/or publishing papers and/or patents.
  • Lead and assist with the design and execution of challenge studies and shelf-life studies in fresh and cooked processed meat product in BSL-2 microbiology laboratory. Coordinate taste panels for meat products manufactured by external customers and internal lab samples in order to evaluate the impact of ingredients on sensory attributes.
  • Manage meat laboratory, including maintaining equipment, lab safety, training material, and placing orders to restock inventory.
  • Lead Meat Innovation Platforms to achieve Innovation Strategy targets.
  • Represent Corbion expertise at customers and research associations.
  • Execute application projects and deliver value propositions to customers.
  • Provide meat technical training leadership to sales, distributors and internal customers.
  • Collaborate with customers in (joint) product/application development projects and provide product application support including troubleshooting, problem solving, technical assistance meat application work and predictive modeling.
  • Other duties as determined by business needs.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s of Science or PHD (Meat Science, Food Science or related Major).
  • 0-5 years of R&D experience in meat/food science.
  • Proven track record of successful meat/food science related research and publications  strongly preferred.
  • Ability to set-up and effectively manage a pilot meat facility.
  • Experience communicating to internal and external partners, translating scientific knowledge for projects and the business.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills: Work successfully in cross-functional teams and matrix work environment.
  • Ability to travel overnight 20-30%.
