Corbion's Sustainable Food Solution's Business Unit sells functional ingredients and processing aids into the meat, meat alternatives, pet food and other markets.   The Business Development Manager (BDM), located in Lenexa, Kansas, is responsible for  the technical development, commercialization and customer development of products within the Innovation Strategy.  The position assures all new value propositions are implemented as prescribed and technically supported to the satisfaction of Corbion's key customers in North America.  The BDM will often serve as the global technical expert for new or novel application areas within Corbion's meat and pet food business.

 

The role will be measured on annual revenue retention, transition to new solutions and pipeline development. The BDM will report to the Business Development Director and work with Sales, marketing, product management, regulatory and Innovation (RD&A)  teams. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the execution of medium and long term meat preservation strategies.
  • Lead the customer-level deployment of new technologies or applications including ingredient or processing aid products, application equipment, monitoring equipment and measurement tools.
  • Actively represent the technical voice of the customer to the R&D project team; contribute commercial application knowledge, review and recommend study protocols, evaluate study results and assure alignment with customer performance criteria.
  • Deliver presentations in private and scientific forums, publish study results and present abstracts at leading scientific meetings.  Assure that Corbion's technical voice is differentiated in the market through the incorporation of deep knowledge (i.e. food safety + shelf-life + processing + quality), unique predictive and application models and innovative approaches to in-plant validation.
  • Maintain strong academic and thought leader relationships with nationally and internationally recognized researchers, business leaders and consultants through participation in industry forums and trade associations.
  • Stay informed regarding changes in regulatory, operational and market factors that influence the use of ingredients and processing aids to anticipate competitive threats and opportunities to grow the business. 
  • Develop and deliver in-house technical proficiency for market applications in meat processing, pet food, meat surface treatment, meat alternatives and new-to-Corbion market spaces.  Bring knowledge and experience to Corbion and develop new skill sets by taking on challenging projects in scoped market application areas.
  • Work cross-functionally to achieve business objectives. Serve on account teams (sales) and product platform teams (R&D) with regular contributions to Corbion's NAM Preservation Leadership Team.
  • Coordinate successful first use trial activities between the customer, Corbion departments, and academia.
  • Create new products and revenue streams from ideation to first customer satisfaction.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Meat Science, Food Science or equivalent industry technical experience.  Additional education is a plus.
  • Demonstrated courage to learn and lead in new or novel application areas.
  • Ability to manage projects, achieve goals, troubleshoot, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of meat product processing and, preferably, harvest intervention or pet food manufacturing.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; can both self-edit and edit/improve the work of others.
  • Proven success in a matrixed organization.
  • Domestic Travel: 20-30%.
