Corbion is seeking a strong Senior Scientist and key member of the R&D team and the Functional Ingredients & Solutions business unit.  In this role, you will be focused on leading bakery and food application projects, either independently or in collaboration with internal and external partners. 

 

The ideal candidate is a broadly trained food scientist with ample experience and knowledge in functional food ingredients in bakery and food applications. A deep understanding of various enzymes, hydrocolloids, proteins, fibers, emulsifiers, and preservatives in baking applications is required.  A passion for leading and managing innovation projects through a stage gate process and coordinating RDA inputs with commercial inputs to deliver the project results is essential.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project commercial leaders to develop project plans using the project management tools, offer technical insights and project feasibility analysis, and execute the project to meet key milestones.
  • Work with customers and suppliers to develop the science and enabling technologies to support the development of innovative solutions for the food industry. 
  • Partner with customers to launch new products, offer trainings on new technologies, and trouble shoot problems.
  • Serve as a technical resource and expertise for both internal and external customers
    Coach/train other scientists regarding ingredient functionality, project management, and related skills.
  • Be flexible in taking additional tasks as needed to support company’s business goals

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Competent in leading and managing innovation projects from beginning to end, including executing the technical portion (experimental design, data collection and analysis) and communication of findings with customers and other team members 
  • Work and communicate effectively with cross-functional team members to promote the culture of team delivery.
  • Support various business functions such as Sales, Technical Services, Marketing, Operations.
  • Train/present to internal and external customers or at conference/trade shows/seminars/etc. 
  • Contribute to the quality of projects by providing technical and industry insights; remain proactive in self learning and enrichment to bring new knowledge and skills to the organization.
  • Liaise with Universities, Research Institutes and other external labs and consultants.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree or PhD in Bakery Science, Food Science, Cereal Chemistry (or other equivalent discipline) and at least 5 years' experience in food research and application labs.  
  • Broad knowledge of bakery processing and formulations of various bakery products.  
  • Solid understanding of the principles of food science, bakery science, food ingredient functionalities, analytical techniques, and baking lab equipment.
  • A customer focus, drive for results/can-do mentality, capable of building trusted relationships with customers, becoming their go-to expert. 
  • Strong people skills (both in leading a project and in working with peers and management) with open and clear communication skills, capable of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a passion for driving results, able to initiate projects and bring new ideas into the organization.
  • Team-player: Builds on expertise of others, connects the dots to drive for optimal results.
  • Competent in innovation process management and project management.
  • Problem solving skills, understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis.
  • May need to travel overnight 20-30%.
