The Food Microbiology & Preservation R&D SFS team plays a key role in the investigation and development of new solutions that will contribute to the execution of the ambitious growth strategy of Corbion in the Natural Preservation Business. Our team of experts works on both modelling and preservation solutions in the form of functional food ingredients that are key to the safety, shelf life, and overall properties of food.. As a Sr. Scientist, you will contribute to innovation projects as well as customer support, according to the business needs.





  • Technical Lead and Project Lead for Food Micro & Preservation related innovation projects, which includes determining approach, responsible for planning, execution with team and setting deliverables.
  • Act as the internal and external subject matter expert on Food Preservation related anti-microbial technology.
  • Contribute to development of the Food Innovation roadmaps and pipeline by actively exploring and proposing new natural preservation solutions.
  •  Set-up of experimental work and work together with the technicians to ensure correct execution of the experimental work.
  • Analyze results generated by technicians. Signal IP opportunities.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of procedures and results according to the Corbion standards. Report methods, results and techniques used. Conclusions and recommendations.
  • Development of new protocols for testing, continuous improvement on existing products, services, production or operational processes in response to customer needs.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and support technicians/scientists.
  • Literature research, and keeping the knowledge of self and the rest of the team well updated on new preservation technologies and trends.
  • Maintain a strong external (scientific) industrial and academic network.
  • Ensure the high quality standards of the microbiology experiments for innovation projects, customer collaborations and specific sales requests.
  • Maintain the collaboration between Food Micro and the Application groups (Gorinchem, Lenexa and remote).




  • Master's in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Biology or equivalent education. PhD is preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge in Food Preservation, with a good understanding of meat and other food applications and food science.
  • Experience in working in a BSL-2 lab.
  • 10 years working experience, preferably in a food company.
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience in handling of food-related microorganisms.
  • Passionate about food, food preservation, and innovation.
  • Project leadership skills: track record of delivering complicated objectives through others: consultants, team members, experts.
  • Customer focused and solution oriented mindset,  capable of building trusted relationship with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creative and drive for success.
  • Pragmatic and can-do mentality with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and proactive approach. 
  • Exceptional team-player skill.
