This role is key to delivering Food Technology and Application projects that contribute to Corbion’s growth. This role reports to the Director, Technology and Functional Blends and is based in our Lenexa, Kansas office. As a Senior Scientist, your primary responsibilities will be leading cross functional projects both independently and/or in collaboration with both internal and external partners.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and/or support projects with the main focus on bakery and food applications
- Collaborate with project commercial leaders to develop project plans using the project management tools, offer technical insights and project feasibility analysis, and execute the project to meet project milestones
- Support the development and implementation of new food technology to support the business strategy, work with customers and suppliers to develop the science and enabling technologies that will support the development of innovative products
- Work directly with customers in launching new products, giving trainings on new technologies, and helping trouble shoot problems
- Serve as a technical resource and expertise for both internal and external customers
- Offer coaching and trainings to other RDA scientists for their competency development
- Be flexible in taking additional tasks as needed to support company’s business goals
Qualifications:
- Broadly trained food scientist with ample experience and knowledge in functional food ingredients in bakery applications. A deep understanding of various enzymes, emulsifiers, and preservatives in baking applications is required.
- Leading and manage innovation projects through a stage gate process and coordinating RDA inputs with commercial inputs to deliver the project results.
- A BS, MS, or PhD degree in Bakery Science, Food Science, Cereal Chemistry (or other equivalent discipline) with >7 years' experience in food research and application labs.
- Broad knowledge of bakery processing and formulations of various bakery products (such as bread, buns, bagels, tortillas, cakes, donuts, etc.) are strongly desirable.
- Solid understanding of the principles of food science and/or bakery science, food ingredient functionalities, analytical techniques, and baking lab equipment are required.
- A customer focus, drive for results/can-do mentality is a must. Capable of building trusted relationship with customers and become their go-to expert.
- Highly motivated self-starter with a passion of driving for results.
- Strong people skills (both in leading a project and in working with peers and management) are a must with open and clear communication skills. Capable of working effectively in cross-functional team environment.
- Able to initiate projects and bring new ideas into the organization. Capable of self-management, and multiple project/tasks management.
- Team-player: Builds on expertise of others and is able to connect the dots to drive for optimal results
- Problem solving skills, understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis
