Our lactic acid and derivatives plant In Spain, Montmeló (Barcelona), services all of our markets; Food, Biochemicals and Pharma. This site is labeled an Innovation Plant within Corbion, meaning that this is often the first location to produce new products and implement new technologies. This site has a continuous pipeline of CAPEX investment projects, enabling Corbion to retain its’ Market and Technology leader position. 


As an Operations Controller at Corbion, you are a business partner with regards to the strategic/tactical and operational business environment. You determine the financial course of the location and, together with your fellow MT members, ensure the support and the implementation of this policy. In addition you fulfill a role as the Site Controller (Site and Facility budget management).





You take responsibility for the further integrating and standardizing the financial reporting of the Montmelo site within Corbion Global Operations. You play a key role in the integration of recently implemented ERP system SAP S/4 Hana. You coordinate the budgeting and forecasting cycle for the operations organization. You support in the preparation of important financial investment decisions in close collaboration with the Operations Manager and the Site Director.


As the operational financial conscience for the production site, you provide reliable financial figures, reports and analyses. You are part of the local Management Team in Montmelo and work closely with the local financial accounting team. You have a functional relationship with the Operations Manager and the Site Director and you report to the Sr. Controller Operations Europe.


  • Monthly production reporting and analysis of variances.
  • Monthly fixed costs reporting and analysis of variances.
  • Responsible for organizing, coordinating and processing the annual budget process and quarterly forecasts of the site.
  • Financial monitoring of the CAPEX program of the site, you report this on a monthly basis in consultation with the Engineering department.
  • Responsible for making profitability calculations for investments and providing financially and economically independent advice with regard to intended investments.
  • Participate and contribute to the monthly Sales & Operations Planning process. Analyzing demand and production planning, optimizing stock positions and supporting make or buy decisions and other business case analysis.
  • Financial management of stocks (cost price and valuation analysis, reconciliation and reporting). 
  • Support the financial analytics of the European Logistics organization (regional external warehousing and freight costs).
  • You manage the operations administrative organization at the location and you ensure compliance with the Corbion standards. In addition, you evaluate and advise on the effectiveness and efficiency of existing working methods and procedures.
  • Local Key user for Finance Operations in SAP.
  • Support the financial analysis of the local Continuous Improvement program.


About you


  • Bachelor or Master degree in Finance & Accounting.
  • 10 years or more of relevant work experience, of which 2 years in a similar position in an industrially and technically oriented organization.
  • Good knowledge of SAP, Business Intelligence tools and Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Informal leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing (financial) projects
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement is considered a benefit.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent command of the Spanish and the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly developed analytical skills and business economical insight.
  • As a critical sparring partner you have the power of persuasion and impact to contribute to the improvement of business processes.
  • Ownership and self-starting abilities are key for this role, in which you find the right balance between customer focus and independence.
