The Production Engineer will act as a technical resource for Operations personnel.  They will apply technical skills to optimize Fermentation and Downstream operations, resolve plant problems and enable production to produce at the highest quality & efficiency.  A continuous improvement mindset and toolbox(Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, etc.) are important attributes for success in this role.  This role develops process expertise and then coaches, advises and assists the operations team on a day to day issues and opportunities related to safety, quality, throughput, reliability and cost.




  • Support training of all systems to enable operators effectiveness to execute daily work.  This may include writing procedures and training
  • Leads and participates in the implementation of Lean Manufacturing initiatives including but not limited to: Visual Performance Management, 5S, Autonomous Maintenance, One Piece Flow, Set-up Time Reduction, etc.
  • Gathers, trends and analyzes process generated data to support data based decision making
  • Define process requirements for new equipment installations or modifications for existing equipment. Leads/Participates in equipment start-up, commissioning and validation activities.
  • Execute capital projects as required. Smaller projects will be the Production Engineer's Responsibility; larger projects will be a joint effort with Corbion Engineer's from other locations.
  • Ensures all tasks are performed in a manner consistent with safety standards and food safety standards
  • Reduce variability in manufacturing by providing standard work methods and work instructions
  • Manage Student Co-Op Program including recruiting, assigning projects and coaching Co-Op Engineers for the duration of their assignment.
  • Support creating and training of plant Work Instructions and training as needed
  • Initiates, owns and reviews MOC’s as needed
  • Facilitate and own plant process improvements
  • Leads and participates in Root Cause Analysis(RCA) for Safety, Quality or other failures as needed
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to schedule PM’s/Repairs on Equipment/Facilities
  • Works with site Planning and Scheduling departments to optimize production schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in related area preferred (Chemical, or Biochemical)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Capability to interface with site ERP system (LX/SAP) & Site PI software
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt or Black Belt experience a plus
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical and keyboard skills.
  • Ability to train in small and large audience settings.
  • Team Player
