Senior Analytical Chemist

Position Summary

As our Senior Analytical Chemist, you will play a pivotal role in the production and development of the natural ferment strategy. You will spearhead analytical growth and will be responsible for the development and transfer of analytical methods for new processes, as well as support on-going production processes. The ideal candidate will be experienced in analytical method transfer as well as development of analytical methods.The position level may be adjusted corresponding to your experience and qualifications.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Technical Lead for analytical related innovation projects which includes, determining approach,  planning, setting deliverables and executing with the team.
  • Lead implementation of analytical methods for new fermentation products.
  • Implement/validate new analytical methods and technologies
  • Support the Peoria operations with analytical procedures, which includes mentoring production team.
  • Perform data analysis to develop understanding of the tradeoffs between process parameters and key performance indicators. 
  • Solve complex analytical problems.
  • Follow cGMP, cGLP, and OSHA guidelines with regard to work practices and safety.
  • Contribute to  project quality, provide technical overviews of analytical techniques employed, and insights from industry (technology trends, best analytical techniques, alternative analyses, new methodology, etc.)
  • Oversee equipment selection, modification, procurement, installation, and start-up in relation to Laboratory Equipment.
  • Analyze raw, intermediate, final product, and stability samples per compendial guidelines.
  • Qualify, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Write, review, and revise SOPs as required.
  • Review and revise laboratory systems on an ongoing basis.
  • Other duties as determined by business needs

 

Qualifications

  • BS/MS Chemistry or related field of study with 10+ years of experience.
  • Exceptional technical and analytical proficiency. Must have technical and hands on knowledge of analytical methods such as HPLC, GC, Discrete Analyzers such as Gallery, YSI, Water Methods, Titration.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of food science, food ingredient functionalities, laboratory analytical techniques, Analytical troubleshooting and method development, and lab equipment are required
  • Must have exceptional people leadership skills and be capable of collaborating in a cross-functional teams ( which includes engineers, scientists, operators, vendors, and partners/collaborators) and with upper management.
  • Proven track record of leading projects and delivering complicated objectives through others: consultants, team members, experts.
  • Ability to implement a LIMs system
  • Possess an internal customer focus, drive for results, and can-do mentality. 
  • Self-motivated, creative, and flexible in a fast-moving environment with a passion to deliver results. Must be able to work in an operational environment while also having a strong connection to the Corbion R&D department.
  • Open and easy communicator with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Able to initiate projects and bring new ideas into the organization. Capable of self-management and managing multiple projects and tasks at once.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time to Europe for technology transfer with the R&D facility
  • This is a Monday- Friday role, with occasional weekends as necessary.

  • Work is performed in a normal office setting and on a manufacturing floor. In the office setting, there will be minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, with substantial time spent working on a computer.
  • Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Laboratory operations will require dexterity and care to perform studies as required.
  • Production floor setting will result in exposure to hot and cold temperatures, noise, fumes, limited dust, and oily coolants.
  • Requires walking, climbing stairs, bending and occasional lifting of material up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • The performance of this position will present exposure to an industrial environment and requires support and compliance with the published Company PPE policy including but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, appropriate attire, safety shoes, hard hat, hearing protection, etc.
