The Business Development Manager reports to the Business Development Director and ensures that NEW differentiated solutions are qualified and commercialized with key players at target customers in support of the company's overall strategy and SFS goals.  An ideal BD is able to combine experience from multiple disciplines and specifically, sales, marketing, and technical & business aspects of products to discover and win opportunities to enable growth in the target markets.  This role is a link between Global Technology (Product Management/R&D) and Regional Commercial Teams (Sales/Tech Service/Applications).  While many customer interactions will be in conjunction with Sales and Technical Personnel, the BD will also travel to existing customers and prospects singly or with Marketing Personnel to develop the accounts.


The BD will deliver through people and teams, and organize to contribute to the realization of business targets.  KPI’s will be based on annual revenue, margin, and pipeline development.  BD as a leader will model safe behavior and encourage others by coaching and relating examples to work and live safely.


  • Lead the implementation and validation of new technologies, products, solutions, and tools with key players into the target customers through existing and new channels in support of the company’s overall strategy and SFS goals.
  • Lead the implementation of new applications, including coordinating equipment partners.
  • Lead protype testing and feedback process, particularly in the project phases "Test & Validate" and "Launch" at target customers.
  • Develop new and existing high potential customers and lead new channels to market such as blenders, and retailers.
  • Train technical service and sales on the technical aspects, features, applicability and functionality of the NEW differentiated solutions and tools.
  • Scout and identify new sales opportunities for the business by working closely with Strategic Intelligence, Marketing, Product Management, Sales, and R&D.   New technology/acquisition scouting is included.



  • Business lead to complex innovation project portfolio in coordination with R&D, Applications, Product Management and Sales.
  • Prioritization of customer projects with the Regional VP, Application and Market Segment Leads, and Product Management
  • Lead onboarding of new technologies identified by scouting, by working closely with R&D, Legal, Regulatory, IP, PM and Applications.
  • Contribut to the development and implementations of the strategic plan (5-10 yeards) and business plan (1-3 years) by supporting the SFS Business VP, and ensuring that the annual sales budget is met or exceeded by working closely with Sales, R&D, Applications, Product Management, and Marketing.
  • Represent the new technology portfolio at key customers, industry meetings, fairs, and events.
  • Provide key data about the Preservation and Functional Systems Markets to support the Strategic Intelligence and Projects team.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.





Bachelor of Science in Food, Biology, Chemistry, Biotech or related field

Preferably Master’s degree in food or business.


Qualifications and experience

The BD will have experience in multiple roles and a minimum of 3 years experience in commercial, R&D or business development positions in a regional or international context. Able to handle the complexity of a matrix organization, the BD is hands-on, a self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and a team player.
