Position Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist will run daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, employee relations, ensuring compliance, and enforcing company policies and practices. This position is full time and is based in Totowa, NJ. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Facilitate communication, interpret, and translate spoken or written information from one language to another (Spanish/English preferred).
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records and ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Processes required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, and other related employment matters.
  • Manage, coordinate, and track leaves of absences between employees and benefits department.
  • Acts as liaison between employees and benefits/payroll. 
  • Lead internship program for Totowa site. 
  • Coordinate with HR Administrator in other locations to support and be a backup for all sites as needed for employee on-boarding.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bi-lingual in Spanish, preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolutions skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. 

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. 
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Manufacturing plant is large, open floor areas with loud machinery, requiring some areas for workers to wear ear protection to guard against noise. Workers are exposed to high temperatures during the summer months. Some work in cold environments during winter months. You will be exposed to a dusty work environment due to raw materials. Materials may contain allergens (eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, milk, fish, shellfish, wheat). 
  • Workers are required to wear masks, hair nets, or gloves to protect the product from possible contamination.
  • Plant runs 24x5. Typical work hours for this position are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday but must be flexible to come in early or late as needed.
