We have an exciting opportunity for an HR Manager with a passion for recruiting and employee engagement in North America.  This position is based in Totowa, NJ and remotely supports the HR/recruiting function for a site in Peoria, IL.  The HR Manager will report to the Manager II, Human Resource with a dotted line to Global Recruitment.

 

As a trusted HR Subject Matter Expert, you will run the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including talent acquisition, HR legal compliance, and employee relations.  You will monitor the “pulse” of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement and a positive workplace culture.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure operation is fully staffed as budgeted, through timely and effective recruiting and onboarding while being a trusted partner with our global talent acquisition team.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, supervisors, and managers, and refer complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Support day-to-day delivery of HR services, which includes responding to general employee questions related to benefits, company policies and procedures.
  • Provide HR policy guidance and ensure full compliance with HR policies and procedures, federal and state laws. 
  • Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of employee records/information and ensure HRIS  systems are up to date in real time.  Conduct internal audits and maintain personnel files/records.
  • Resolve workplace conflicts and employee relations issues, including conducting timely, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Coach employees and supervisors.
  • Coordinate and facilitate human resources trainings.
  • Manage and process workers’ compensation claims, collaborate with Safety Manager to ensure that safety practices are being followed and participate in plant and office safety activities.
  • Support all legal, audit and compliance activities;
  • Assist with special HR related project research, analysis, recommendations and reporting;
  • Other duties as determined by business needs.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or other related field preferred
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience working in HR preferred.
  • Current and, in depth knowledge of all Federal, New Jersey and Illinois state and local employment law.
  • Solid base knowledge and experience in HR disciplines such as: employee relations, talent management, compensation and total rewards, performance management, training and development and diversity/affirmative action.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to establish positive relations with both internal and external business partners and employees, at all levels of the organization.  ability to work with confidence independently and cross-functionally across various departments; establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties;
  • Handle multiple projects and competing priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Coaching skills and ability to provide guidance to supervisors and employees to improve working relations, deal with performance concerns, etc.
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and a team player.
  • Be a proactive employee problem solver and proactively identify areas of improvement.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, excellent judgment and composure. 
  • High attention to detail required with a focus on ensuring deadlines are met and accurate records are kept.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and proactive approach. 
  • Capable of building trusted relationship with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Workers are required to wear masks, hair nets, or gloves to protect the product from possible contamination. Certain areas require respirators.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department, plant floor, and warehouse facility within New Jersey organization.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Manufacturing plant is large, open floor areas with loud machinery, requiring some areas for workers to wear ear protection to guard against noise. Workers are frequently exposed to high temperatures during the summer months. Some work in cold environments during winter months.  Production/Warehouse areas are dusty.
