Production Supervisor (3rd Shift)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Production Supervisor is based at the Totowa, NJ plant and reports directly to the Operations Manager. This position will focus on providing leadership to the hourly production staff to achieve daily production goals. The Production Supervisor is part of a team of shift supervisors who work together to accomplish and maintain high levels of performance and quality in the food manufacturing facility. Responsible for safety, quality, productivity, cost control and people development.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), Safety, and Environmental regulations as well as company policies.
  • Maintain positive attitude. Focus on the customer. teamwork, and engagement.  
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality and Warehouse Supervisors to ensure production is on schedule.
  • Supervise all aspects of the production and sanitation processes and support master GMP and sanitation list.
  • Provide quality audit support and communicate quality assurance needs.
  • Assign personnel to specific jobs including scheduling OT as needed to meet the schedule adherence KPI.
  • Prepare shift notes and provide for effective shift handover to incoming shift.
  • Troubleshoot quality, mechanical or other problems as they arise on the shop floor.
  • Identify high performance individuals and help with succession planning.
  • Ensure goals are met safely and that workforce is operating within safety guidelines.
  • Ensure correct materials are used in the manufacturing process and that standard operational procedures are being followed.
  • Effectively manage inventory by following proper scanning and
  • Hold team member accountable for their performance including issuing coaching and discipline as needed
  • Initiate and lead investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for Safety and Quality deviations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Two plus (2+) years in a Manufacturing Supervisor role within the food industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Engineering is preferred.
  • Ability to motivate and instruct employees as well as administer discipline as necessary
  • An understanding of union rules and policies
  • Strong food processing, GMP and OSHA knowledge
  • Knowledge of ERP and time clock management systems
  • Willingness to work second or third shift with occasional weekend shifts

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Manufacturing plant is large, open floor areas with loud machinery, requiring some areas for workers to wear ear protection to guard against noise. Workers are frequently exposed to high temperatures during the summer months. Some work in cold environments during winter months.
  • Workers are required to wear masks, hair nets, or gloves to protect the product from possible contamination. Certain areas require respirators.
